BarCamp Battambang ‘17: A Retrospective

Held from 25 to 26 November, BarCamp Battambang 2017 took place at the University of Battambang with the aim of empowering young Cambodian minds and imparting invaluable inspiration and knowledge to these youth and local entrepreneurs!

Successfully organised by 20 amazing young volunteers and local organisers in Battambang, this event was also done in partnership with the Young Entrepreneur Association of Battambang and supported by the Ministry of Education and University of Battambang. With their help, the event was able to garner over 700 participants, as well as 22 expert speakers and 8 exhibitors.

Highlights of the flagship event included three interesting keynote speeches; starting off with Managing Partner of Emerald HUB, Mr. Be Chantra’s ‘Understanding Digital Economy in Cambodia’, followed by ‘Youth and Technology’ by Ms. O Mouy, an Ambassador of Technovation Cambodia and finally, ‘Strengthening Entrepreneurship in Battambang’ by Mr. Phu Veasna, the President of Young Entrepreneur Association of Battambang.

Besides that, the event saw the discussion of an array of topics, 36 to be exact. Out of the 36, here is a breakdown of the top 10 attended talks during the Battambang Event:

  • ‘University Major and Career Path Development’ by Ms Sok Mardi from Forte and Mr. Chhaly Samsokret, the Organizer of BarCamp ASEAN, saw 80 participants

  • ‘Technovation Global Competition: Tech & Business Skills to be a Tech Startup’ by Ms Chea Gechheang, Technovation Cambodia Facilitator, saw 70 participants

  • ‘Using Technology for Research with Google Scholar and Facebook’ by Mr. Nhem Chhor Daren, Founder of Adorebic saw 68 participants

  • ‘Photography Tips with Smartphone’ by Mr. Chy Sophat, a Digital Design Specialist saw 65 participants

  • ‘Prepare your life path to be young entrepreneur’ by Mr. Souseth Satya, Co-Founder of Horizon Cambodia saw 50 participants

  • ‘Photography composition’ by Mr. Chhunleng, Founder of Bro. Pub saw 50 participants

  • ‘Marketing for Startup Business’ by Mr. Nhem Chhor Daren, Founder of Adorebic saw 48 participants

  • Facebook Tips and Hacking Protection’ by Mr. Tholthoeun Chansovann, a Web Developer saw 45 participants

  • ‘Why can crazy ideas be a successful business’ by Ms Poko Oya, CEO of Suprastra saw 45 participants

  • ‘Cambodia Startup Ecosystem’ by Mr. Be Chantra, Managing Partner of Emerald HUB by 40 participants
