Hi all, we’re trying to figure out the best way to spend some time in the jungle, perhaps at a wildlife sanctuary after leaving Siem Reap and before heading to Koh Rong Samloem to wrap up our vacation with some beach time.
I’ve seen references to a number of interesting looking options, some located on the northern end of this huge jungle (Phnum Samkoh Wildlife Sanctuary), some on its eastern boundaries (Wildlife Release Station in the Cardamom Mountains), one fairly central (Osoam Cardamom Community Center), and then the Botum Sakor National Park proper to the south.
Our goals for the national park visit are peace/quiet/, nature/wildlife (hearing monkeys howling maybe spending time in a blind in the canopy for other wildlife viewing), hiking/kayaking/ or whatever else is available.
From there we’ll be wrapping up our trip (starting a couple weeks earlier in Vietnam) with some beach time, then flying home from Phnom Penh.
First we’d love to hear any ideas on best ways to travel from Siem Reap to any of these areas. Was originally planning on a boat ride to PP, then travel to the coast, but your posts on the dangers of that plan steered us clear of that. Now we’re leaning towards a flight from SR to Sihanoukville, then a car/bus to the Botum Sakor national park. But we’re open to any ideas on travel from SR to any of the jungle/ wildlife related locations mentioned above (or others if you have them).
This is a wedding anniversary for my wife and I (25th!), so just the two of us. Budget is pretty flexible, and we’ve traveled fairly extensively in South America and India so the logistics don’t have to be ironclad… 🙂
Thanks in advance for any thoughts / recommendations / warnings you might have!
