Our tuk-tuk driver landed us at Angkor Pich Travel who charged us $35 for this route, including the boat from Nakasong to Don Det. We knew the fare should be about $30 but did not have the time to shop around. However next day the minivan was an awful experience. First we had a flat tyre which the driver just inflated at a roadside shop but soon it was flat again and he had to change it. Then another flat tyre and this time he also changed the brake. Finally we gained Stung Treng bus stop where some lengthy conversations occurred. We were issued green tickets for another bus plus a boat ticket. The driver that took us to the border was stopping at every small shop to deliver drinks and beers and finally we gained the border 15 minutes before closure – border closes at 6 PM. There comes a guy who says he’ll fix our visas on arrival but he collects $40 instead of $30. Finally on the Laos side our passports come, but now we had to board just a truck with some benches. So a third vehicle when we were told the bus is direct.
So we finally gain Nakasong at 7 PM instead of 3 PM as promised.
Has anyone made the journey with a direct and more reliable vehicle?
