This being our first visit we had no reference point to normal. Fair to say the area around the river near Bar Street and Sok San Road was absolutely buzzing with activity. Over the period there was a big fireworks display, boat racing on the river (apparently the winners of the first two days go to the capital PP to compete in the national race with others from the provinces), candles/latterns floating down the river, lots of decorations with the various bridges lit up colourfully. The banks of the river were a mass of people with street food stalls and families camped out for the festivities. For the youngsters there was a music stage set up with a DJ pounding out the latest deep house or rave tunes. This was set up alongside a foam party location. It seemed like the local fire engine had been hired to use its water canon with added foam to soak the crowd who were having a great time. There were other paddling pools set up where locals could oppose each other and have a joust or boxing match to see who would be knocked off the pole first and get soaked. All great fun for the locals. Bar Street was solid with people with bars installing additional tables and chairs extended into the road.

The date of the festival is linked to a lunar cycle so next year it is on 30th October for three days. If you have the opportunity to time your visit for when the festival is on I would recommend it to see the locals enjoying one of their major festivals.
