I thought I would cast this question to the more experienced members of the forum as to where this ‘rule’ comes from, that drivers cannot be guides and vice-versa. I’ve always believed this to be the case but on my most recent visit, my tuk tuk driver accompanied us throughout most of the temples we visited, including Angkor Wat, without any question.
Although she never suggested she was an “official” guide, it was certainly great to have her local knowledge and experience beside us on our tour.
It makes me wonder then, why a professional guide, who would maybe have his own personal transport, wouldn’t take the opportunity to drive his guests around, and is there really anything preventing drivers from accompanying their guests through the temples?
