Inquiry Submission By Quitchery
Hi all, just wanted to give any interested parties information on how I extended my tourist visa easily in Phnom Penh, as I found it difficult getting updated information.
We are a family of 4, and wanted to spend a second month in Cambodia. After reaching Phnom Penh, we went to one of the well known agencies, but they told us it is now taking 10-12 days to get a tourist visa extended, or we could get an express one in a few days but it would cost over 100 dollars each. Neither option was good for us, especially when doing it for 4!
We took a tuk tuk to the department of immigration – cost, 8 dollars return from near royal palace. Arrived 2pm, filled out short form, handed in passport, one photograph and extension fee, just 30 dollars per passport. Waited about 20 minutes for receipt, including official letter stating where passport was in case this was needed. Signed this and left.
Arrived back exactly one week later, 8 dollars return in tuk tuk again (believe bus 3 can be taken too, 2000 reel per person). Took 15 minutes to get passport returned. Absolutely no problems.
I found that the staff were really easy to deal with and the process was very smooth. If you have the time, I would definitely recommend this way.
Incidentally, another guy was getting his year visa extension and price quoted was 178 dollars. The foreigner seemed to be insisting that the correct charge should be 278 dollars, but the official confirmed that it was definitely only 178 dollars.
Hope this information is of use to fellow travellers.
