Inquiry Submission By BrisbaneHolidaymaker
Thank you in advance for any insights into our current plans as well as for the many posts that I have read and used to inform our current thoughts. We (my husband aged 60 and myself, 57) are travelling to Cambodia in late December/early January. We are active, enjoy the outdoors, history and wildlife and have not been to Cambodia before but have travelled to Vietnam several times. We fly into Siem Reap on the morning of 29/12 from Brisbane, Australia via Singapore and fly out of Phnom Penh to DaNang on the 13/1. There are so many places we would like to visit in Cambodia that we have come to the conclusion that this will be our first trip as it is impossible to do more than scratch the surface in 16 days. We don’t enjoy travelling from one place to another without appreciating most of what one place has to offer. With this in mind we thought we would try to mostly focus on the north of Cambodia on this trip and would appreciate any thoughts on our itinerary that reflects that.
Days 1 & 2 Siem Reap
Days 3 & 4 travel to Battambang and explore the area (the timing of this trip is reflective of our preferred accommodation option not being available until the 2/1 which is day 5)
Day 5 return from Battambang to Siem Reap
Days 6 to 10 Siem Reap exploring locally as well as day trips to places such as Preah Vihear, Kulen, Koh Ker etc Any suggestions gladly welcomed. Initially we were thinking of making some of these trips into a multi day mini tour but quotes were quite expensive compared to single day trips which may have been a reflection of who we asked. We don’t want anyone to tout for business on this post please
Is this too many/not enough days in Siem Reap. We are looking forward to the temples but do not want to have temple overload so that we don’t appreciate what we have seen.
Day 11 – 16
Option A fly to Sihanoukville on the morning of day 11, transfer to Kampot for a three night stay. Day 14 transfer to Phnom Penh for two nights with an early afternoon flight to DaNang on day 16.
Option B fly to Phnom Penh on the morning of day 11, overnight Phonm Pehn, transfer to Kampot day 12 for 3 nights returning to Phnom Penh on day 15 with an early afternoon flight to DaNang on day 16
Option C fly to Phnom Penh on the morning of day 11, transfer to Kampot day for 3 nights returning to Phnom Penh on day 14 with an early afternoon flight to DaNang on day 16
The flight prices are similar for all options, there is only one flight to Sihanoukville but multiple to Phnom Penh. Flying to Sihanoukville meant we weren’t backtracking but if the flight is cancelled we would have to wait until the next day to make the journey.
We would appreciate any thoughts on time spent in Siem Reap as well as the options for the end of the time. Also open to completely different thoughts/ideas that we may not have considered.
Thank you again TA community.
