We are a family of 4 (kids are 7 and 9) headed to Southeast Asia for 7 weeks this summer. We are definitely spending time in Cambodia, and may spend time in southern Thailand too. We are also almost certainly spending a few days on the Perhentians in Malaysia. I’m trying to decide whether we do beach time in Koh Rong/KRS or southern Thailand (Koh Muk, Railay, Koh Kradan – where is still TBD) – since it’ll be rainy season we wouldn’t do both those plus the Perhentians.
I’d like something with electricity and wi-fi at least part of the day, ideally the whole day. Nothing too party-focused since we have kids. If there is a pool awesome, but not necessary. We’d also love some hiking and the ability to see animals. Good local food (vs crappy western resort food) is a definite plus. I am leaning towards Koh Rong since it seems like development will swallow it up in a few years and this is our chance, but wonder whether the kids will like the amenities and big landscapes in southern Thailand.
Anyone been to both Kong Rong and southern Thailand and have comparisons?
