Sihanoukville feels like a paradise that?s going to be lost very soon. The beach is gorgeous and the beach shacks are the best places to relax. But the road from the airport to the beach is peppered with the invasion of Chinese construction projects. The boards are in Mandarin and scream at you about the newest casino and bungalow projects. Not to mention there are trucks everywhere and the non local drivers don?t really follow any road rules.

The sad part is that the locals really hate the construction. It?s had a huge impact on the number of tourists. The are angry and will definitely tell you about how upset they are with their government for allowing Chinese companies to change everything they know and love.

I?d say go to Sihanoukville while you can, while it?s still quaint and largely unknown.
