Having spent 3 nights in PP at lovely”Penh House Jungle Addition” we were picked up at 8.30 am by our driver for the long drive to our next destination “Rainbow Lodge” in Tatai near Koh Kong.

Well, to cut it short, it was an adventure and we were glad when we arrived in one piece and were dropped of at Tatai Bridge after 6 hours drive, the last 2 hours over mostly unfinished road 48, which was mostly washed away during the rainy season.

From here we were picked up by longboat to be taken to our “Jungle” home for the next 3 nights, what a difference to the hustle, bustle and smells of PP and we realised it was worth the long drive.

Here we spent 2 1/2 days in blissfully serene surroundings, relaxing, swimming in the river and massages by the river whilst listening to the resident Geckos and Cicadas. We hiked to Tatai waterfalls with a knowledgable guide and returned to the lodge by boat. The food here was delicious and freshly cooked and the atmosphere in the open-air restaurant convivial with plenty of chats with other guests. We were sad to leave and wish we had stayed a fourth night to explore the Cardamom mountains further.

After another arduous early morning drive we arrived back in PP around 2 pm and enjoyed a relaxing afternoon with cocktails by the pool at the amazing Palace Gate Hotel which was our stopover treat.

After cold water showers in the jungle we greatly appreciated the luxurious bathroom and hot shower before heading out to the “Independence Day” fireworks, watched over dinner from the rooftop restaurant at Frangipani Royal Palace Hotel.

We also really enjoyed the buzzy atmosphere with loads of locals picknicking in front of the palace.

We finished of the night with cocktails at the lovely rooftop bar at the Palace Gate Hotel before a relaxing nights sleep ahead of our final leg to Siem Reap the next morning.

Hope you enjoy reading and part 3 to follow soon.
